Felix’s on the Lake

nicoyahogan

A local treat but closer to my house! Felix's has a couple of locations, with the original in the French Quarter. But my visit however, took me to the lakefront location. I went with my husband and two growing boys for a late lunch early dinner...and it was rather tasty.

We ended up arriving at the end of happy hour which was cool because our chargrilled oysters were cheaper and my Blue Moon beer was half off. We ordered quite a bit of food to try and nothing was really disappointed me.

To start we had a dozen chargrilled oysters, fried alligator, fried calamari, and the soup trio. The chargrilled oysters were good, nice and hot and the bread was toasted and drizzled in the butter sauce and topped with more cheese....chef's kiss (the toasted bread gets me everytime lol). The fried alligator was good too, fried perfectly. My kids had never had alligator before and I only got two pieces before they destroyed the remainder.

The fried calamari was decent...I think it should be fried separately bc it tasted like everything else that had been fried. The soup trio was a treat. It provided a sample of the Seafood Gumbo, Oyster & Artichoke soup, and the Turtle soup (y'all know how I feel about turtle soup!!!!) All of the soups were pretty good, the gumbo was a bit thicker than I normally like but it was still flavorful. The oyster & artichoke was good as well, silky like I like it. The turtle soup was good too, no sherry but it did have the diced eggs on top.

For our meals, my husband had the Waygu cheeseburger, the boys had tenders & fries, fried shrimp & fish with fries, and I had the Buffalo oysters & Seared Tuna app. Everything was really good. The seafood and tenders were fried perfectly. The seafood came with hush puppies, something I hadn't had in forever...my kid didn't know what they were lol. The buffalo oysters were fried nice and tossed in a buffalo sauce and then topped with blue cheese crumbles. The seared tuna was seared perfectly rare, and sliced atop a sweet chili glaze and topped with a sriracha aioli and dollops of sriracha sauce...very very tasty. We all had a big enough portion that something went in box to take home.

Friendly service and they have outdoor seating which is nice if you wanna look out at the lake and boats/yachts passing by or to enjoy the breeze. If you go it may seem familiar because it's the building that used to house the restaurant Brisbi's awhile back. I wanna go check out the Sunday brunch bc you can't beat $15.99 Bottomless Mimosas...so I'll definitely be back again.

Run...don't walk to check out Felix's.
