What an awesome little spot on Magazine Street! I'm excited to go back again and again.
Popped in this spot for a Saturday brunch with my friend Melly. We were delightfully surprised by everything. The ambiance is nice and they have a huge yellowfin tuna on one of the walls which makes a statement. They played Mardi Gras music the entire time we were there and we LOVED it! It's our favorite holiday...lol. The service was on point as well. Our server was really nice and attentive.
For starters they have bottomless mimosas for brunch on Saturdays and Sundays for about $18!!!! Winning🥇 They also have great mock tails for our sober friends.
To start we had the chargrilled oysters. They were fantastic!!! The butter sauce was perfect and the cheese was melted to perfection. It came with bread for dipping as well. Hands down some of the best oysters in the city. They also had a crab claw special for starters (I'll be back for that for sure).
For entrees, Melly had the Chicken & Waffles. The chicken was fried perfectly, crispy and juicy. The waffle was nice and fluffy. The syrup and honey sauce was a nice touch as well. I had the Short Rib Grillades & Grits. I've never had grillades and grits made with short rib before, usually it's veal (which I love). The short rib was so tender and flavorful. The gravy was perfection! There were mushrooms in the sauce as well which gave it some great texture. The grits were silky and slightly cheesy. The portions were perfect as well.
There were other items on the menu that I want to go back and try for brunch for sure. I also want to go back for their regular dinner menu as well and see what else they have to offer. I highly recommend this place for your tastebuds. Run don't walk and get to Basin Seafood & Spirits.
