Cafe Degas

Cafe Degas is a great spot in Mid City of New Orleans. I stopped in again recently for brunch with friends last week. It was really busy but thanks to our reservation we were seated quickly. Cafe Degas is known for its spin on French cuisine. So many levels of flavor in their dishes.

We started with the pâté plate. It was superb. The duck liver was so smooth and delicious. The baguette was toasted to perfection. The honey mustard and other accoutrements were just right. For my meal I had the Veal Grillades & Grits and added a fried egg on top. The sauce was tomato-based. The seasonings and flavor were so on point. The grits were nicely done as well. My only drawback of this dish was that the veal was braised and my portion didn’t have much veal in it. But it was still delicious. My husband had the hangar steak dish. Also quite tasty.

The service was great. I wish they had a bottomless mimosa offering…but maybe down the line. I’ll definitely be back to Cafe Degas again. Go try them out…you will not be disappointed.
